Barbershop Petawawa is seeking an experienced, highly skilled tattoo artist specializing in realism and micro-realism tattooing to join our growing studio in Petawawa, Ontario.

This position is intended for an artist capable of producing technically advanced, highly detailed custom tattoo work for clients seeking premium-quality realism rather than general walk-in tattoo services.

Duties

The successful candidate will:

• Design and execute custom realism and micro-realism tattoos based on client concepts, photographs and reference material
• Perform highly detailed black-and-grey and/or colour realism tattoo work
• Produce portrait, photographic, animal, military, memorial and other detailed realism tattoos
• Create fine-detail and micro-realism pieces requiring precise line work, shading, texture and tonal transitions
• Conduct client consultations and develop original tattoo compositions appropriate for placement, anatomy and long-term tattoo integrity
• Prepare digital or hand-drawn artwork and tattoo stencils
• Evaluate skin, tattoo placement and design feasibility before tattooing
• Modify designs where required to maintain detail and readability as the tattoo ages
• Operate professional tattoo machines and related equipment safely
• Maintain strict infection-prevention, sterilization, sanitation and cross-contamination-control procedures
• Maintain a clean and professional tattooing environment
• Provide clients with appropriate tattoo aftercare instructions
• Maintain accurate client consent and service records
• Photograph completed work for portfolio and studio promotional purposes, with client permission
• Collaborate professionally with other artists and studio staff

Requirements

Applicants must have:

• Minimum 5 years of professional tattooing experience
• Demonstrated professional experience specializing in realism and/or micro-realism tattooing
• Advanced ability in realistic shading, depth, contrast, texture, proportion and fine-detail tattoo execution
• Experience completing complex custom tattoo projects from consultation through final tattoo
• Strong understanding of how highly detailed tattoo designs must be adapted for skin and long-term healing
• Knowledge of professional tattoo sanitation, infection prevention and blood-borne pathogen precautions
• Strong client consultation and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and manage scheduled tattoo appointments
• A professional portfolio demonstrating completed and healed realism tattoo work

Portfolio Requirements

Applicants must provide a portfolio containing examples of:

• Realism tattoos
• Micro-realism or highly detailed fine-scale tattoo work
• Portrait or photographic-reference tattoos
• Detailed black-and-grey and/or colour realism
• Healed tattoo results where available

Preference may be given to applicants with demonstrated expertise in portraiture, photographic realism, military-themed realism, memorial tattoos and complex multi-session projects.

This is an on-site position. Tattoo services must be performed at the studio in Petawawa, Ontario.
