Environmental Engineer/ Scientist

GHD is looking for a Junior Civil/Environmental Engineer to join our Waterloo team. The Environmental engineering team in Waterloo supports aggregate licensing projects, assists with environmental assessments, provides environmental and engineering services to several industrial and private sector clients, and develops and manages long-term operation, maintenance, and monitoring (OM&M) of remedial systems and risk management measures. The current positions (2) are primarily in support of aggregate compliance and licensing services, including the construction and operation of water management systems moving more than 1 billion litres annually for the protection of environmental sensitive features and habitats.

The successful candidate will:

• Assist in the preparation of project related technical documents including proposals, environmental reports, technical specifications, and drawings for review.
• Field work and oversight associated with routine compliance monitoring, environmental investigations, OM&M sites, and will include drilling, soil sampling, well installation, groundwater sampling, surface water sampling, excavation, wetland/ecological monitoring, etc.

Skills, Competencies and Qualifications:

• New or recent graduate of a relevant Bachelors of Environmental Engineering, Bachelor of Applied Science, or equivalent program
• Courses related to water resources (e.g., hydrology, hydrogeology, aquatic chemistry) will be an asset
• 0 – 2 years’ of experience in the civil or environmental engineering field
• Willingness to travel to undertake fieldwork is required (field work is generally completed within driving distance and may include working in inclement weather conditions or in remote wilderness locations)
• Must be able to manage multiple tasks while maintaining a high degree of attention to detail
• Must be flexible with project types and responsibilities
• Excellent English writing and verbal communication skills to effectively express technical information to multiple audiences including subcontractors, field staff, clients, colleagues, etc.
• Valid driver’s license (a MVR check will be performed prior to hire)
