As a Cook at Akira Japanese Restaurant, your primary responsibilities will include:
Key Responsibilities:
• Prepare and Cook Meals: Prepare and cook complete meals or individual dishes, including sushi, sashimi, rice dishes, and other traditional Japanese foods, ensuring high-quality food that meets the restaurant’s standards.
• Menu Planning: Assist in planning menus and determining the size of food portions, ensuring a balanced offering of traditional and contemporary Japanese dishes.
• Estimate Food Requirements and Costs: Help estimate food requirements and costs for each service, ensuring the efficient use of ingredients and maintaining budgeted food costs.
• Order Supplies and Equipment: Monitor kitchen supplies, and regularly order ingredients, food products, and kitchen equipment as needed to maintain smooth kitchen operations.
• Supervise Kitchen Staff: Provide guidance and support to kitchen staff, including kitchen helpers and junior cooks, ensuring tasks are carried out according to restaurant standards.
• Train and Develop Staff: Assist in the training of kitchen staff in food preparation, cooking techniques, and food safety protocols.
• Maintain Inventory and Records: Keep accurate records of food inventory, supplies, and kitchen equipment, and track usage to ensure timely reordering and avoid shortages.
• Clean Kitchen and Work Areas: Ensure that the kitchen and work areas are clean, sanitized, and organized in accordance with health and safety standards.
• Manage Kitchen Operations: Help ensure efficient kitchen operations, including food preparation, cooking, plating, and ensuring timely service during busy periods.
Qualifications:
• 2+ years of experience as a cook, preferably in Japanese cuisine.
• Strong knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, and Japanese culinary traditions.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, maintaining high standards of food quality.
• Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to manage kitchen tasks independently and support team members.
• High attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
